Nursing Student Council
The Nursing Student Council is the voice of the nursing student body to the Carthage faculty and administration. Every nursing cohort will have a representative who serves on the executive team of the council, which includes the president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. This group is very important, as it participates with the faculty and administration in making decisions about the nursing program and communicating important information to the nursing student body.
Sigma Theta Tau International
Students with exemplary academic and leadership performance may be invited to join the Phi Beta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, nursing’s only international honor society. This organization is comprised of the brightest, and best nursing has to offer, not only in the United States but worldwide.
Carthage Association of Nursing Students (CANS)
CANS is a professional development and community service organization that provides nursing students opportunities to engage in social services to vulnerable populations within the Kenosha and Racine communities.
Pre-Health Club
Pre-Health Club is an organization for students interested in entering a healthcare-related field. Pre-Health Club brings in speakers from medical, graduate, veterinary, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, pharmacy, dental, and chiropractic schools; speakers may include admissions representatives and Carthage alumni. These talks are geared toward helping students learn about different schools and better understand the admissions process and requirements. Pre-Health Club also brings upper and underclassmen together so underclassmen can ask older students about courses, how to prepare for tests like the MCAT and GRE, and application questions. The club also gives members information about internship and shadowing opportunities.
Active Minds
Active Minds is a national organization that aims to educate students about the prevalence of mental illness among college students. One in four college students suffers from some form of mental illness. The Carthage chapter of Active Minds aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health disorders on campus. The group hosts fun stress-relieving activities throughout the year, promotes awareness through national events such as National Stress Out Week and National Day Without Stigma, and hosts a biweekly speaker series titled Speak Out — Reach Out, in which members of the campus community talk about an issue that negatively impacted their mental health and how they coped with it. Students from all majors are welcome.
The Special Olympics Club
The Special Olympics Club advocates for people on campus with disabilities by holding events and partnering with other groups both on- and off-campus to support the community of people with disabilities. The organization’s largest event is the Special Olympics basketball game.
